Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and Zambia women’s national team coach Enala Phiri have agreed to part ways, just days to Cosafa Women’s Championship 2018.
The decision was reached during the FAX Executive Committee meeting held on 1 September.
Coach Phiri is a familiar face with the women’s national team, having served as an assistant coach in 2017 and a sitting-in coach earlier.
Assistant Coach Beauty Mwamba will now step in as the acting national team coach ahead of Cosafa to be held in South Africa on 12-22 September.
Zambia have been pooled alongside favourites Cameroon, Lesotho and Mozambique in Group B.
They will be looking to extend their stellar year highlighted by qualifying for the 2018 Africa Wome’s Cup of Nations by reaching their first Cosafa final.
Shepolopolo have finished third thrice in Cosafa: the maiden edition in 2002 then again in 2006 and in last year’s edition.
Cosafa Women’s Championship 2018, the sixth edition of the tournament, will feature 12 teams with hosts South Africa arriving as the defending champions.
FAZ Media Release on Coach Phiri
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has with immediate effect parted company with Zambia Women’s National team coach, Enala Phiri.
The decision to part ways with Mrs Phiri was made during the Football Association of Zambia Executive Committee meeting held on 1st September, 2018.
“FAZ and Mrs Phiri reached a mutual agreement to part ways. The decision to part company is purely in the Associations and Mrs Phiri’s interest.
“We wish to take this opportunity to wish her the best of luck in her future endeavours.”
FAZ has therefore, appointed Zambia Women’s National team Assistant coach, Mrs Beauty Mwamba as acting national team coach.
“We wish to congratulate Mrs Mwamba on her appointment. FAZ has immense faith in her ability to deliver for the nation.”
