Giants Dedebit and Ethiopia Nigid Bank grabbed narrow wins to remain top as the Ethiopian Women’s Premier League resumed.

The league had taken a 45-day break to make way for Ethiopia women’s national team AWCON 2018 qualifiers against Algeria.

Adama City 0-3 Hawassa City

In the first kick-off of Week 13, visitors Hawassa City picked a comfortable win to climb to 4th on 17 points as Adama City on 14 points dropped to 7th.

Ethiopia international Mirekat Feleke capitalised on a defensive howler to open the scoring in the 21st minute.

Feleke then turned provider, sliding the ball to Lidet Tolwa to double the lead at the stroke of half-time.

Two minutes after the interval, Etalemaw Amenu, named Player of the Match, netted a beauty from 30 yards out to place the win beyond doubt.

Ethiopia Nigid Bank 1-0 Ethio-Electric

Meanwhile, bottom-placed Ethio-Electric could not add to their meagre six points despite an impressive showing against Ethiopia Nigid Bank.

The bankers scraped a win courtesy of Ethiopia WNT skipper Rehima Zerega’s header home in the first stanza.

This saw the former champions remain second with 28 points, three behind holders Dedebit.

Dedebit 1-0 Dire-Dawa City

The leaders grabbed a narrow win as well to extend their unbeaten run this season in a match halted after only 32 minutes due to heavy downpour on Saturday (16 June).

The pending 58 minutes were played the following day with Ethiopia international Senait Bogale netting the winner.

Dedebit on 31 points remain top while Dire-Dawa sit second to bottom on 13 points.

Gedio Dilla 1-0 Defence Force

At the Dilla Stadium, hosts Gedio Dilla clinched a hard-fought win to dent Defence’s title hopes.

The defeat leaves the army side third on 23 points, eight adrift of leaders Dedebit while Gedio Dilla move up to fifth on 17 points.

St. George 1-0 Sidama Coffee   

Elsewhere, fullback Meslu Abera scored the winner for St. George in injury time at the Addis-Ababa Stadium.

The match was staged ahead of the men’s Premier league game between St. George and Dedebit thus drew a sizeable crowd.

Following the result, the Saints sits 6th on the log with 15 points while Sidama Coffee on 14 points move down to 8th.
