USA U-20 women’s national team beat hosts France 3-1 on Sunday, 10 June, clinching the inaugural Sud Ladies Cup title undefeated.
In the other match, Germany easily defeated Haiti 4-1 to pick their first win of the four-nation tournament.
All four nations were using the round-robin competition to prepare for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria and Ghana will be Africa’s torchbearers in the World Cup to be held in France on 5-24 August.
Sophia Smith gave USA the lead in the 60th but Stephanoise Kelly Gago drew France level six minutes later as USA conceded their first goal of the tournament.
In the 70th minute, Smith slipped the ball to Erin Gilory to make it 2-1 for the Americans before Penelope Hocking wrapped up the win to hand France their first defeat of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Haiti’s Roseline Eloissaint netted in the 16th minute to cancel out Stefanie Sanders’ seventh-minute opener for Germany.
But Luca Graf restored Germany’s lead at the half hour mark then Laura Freigang scored twice in the second half.
With that German, who lost to USA before drawing with France and edging Haiti, finish third while the Haitians, set to mark their U-20 World Cup debut, finish fourth.
