Refiloe Jane struck twice as South Africa defeated Cameroon 2-1 in the thrilling 2018 Cosafa Women’s Championship final on Saturday to retain the title.
Jane scored on either side of the half at the Wolfson Stadium while Genevieve Ngo Mbeleck scored Cameroon’s sole goal.
The Banyana Banyana vice-captain opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a belter from 25 yards out to score her first ever Cosafa goal.
But Cameroon drew level in the 66th minute with Catherine Mbengono’s cross from the left flank finding Ngo Mbeleck inside a crowded box.
Mbeleck deftly controlled the ball, losing two of her markers then found the bottom left to score her third of the tournament.
Midfielder Jane would respond in kind at the death, crowning a stellar solo run with a left-footed low shot home to lift the holders to a record fifth Cosafa title.
Focus for both nations now turns to the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in November.
AWCON 2018 will double as Africa’s qualifiers for the 2019 Women’s World Cup with the top three qualifying for the global showpiece.
