Uganda defeated Zambia 1-0 to finish third in the 2018 Cosafa Women’s Championship on Friday.
Captain Tracy Akiror converted from the spot at the half hour mark to score the lone goal of the match.
Crested Cranes were awarded the penalty after Juliet Nalukenge was brought down in the box by Martha Tembo.
The victory means the overly young Crested Cranes side, with an average age of just 18.4 years, have defeated two nations headed to the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
They downed favourites Zimbabwe in the group stage and now fellow AWCON 2018 bound-Zambia.
With that, Crested Cranes add a Cosafa bronze to the Cecafa silver they clinched in July.
They also hold the record for the the best performance by a guest nation in the tournament, since its maiden edition in 2002.
Guest nation Cameroon will be looking to overturn this historic record when they meet hosts and holders South Africa in the final on Saturday.
